Balnahard beach, Isle of Colonsay

Balnahard beach, Isle of Colonsay When thinking of beaches on Islay’s neighbour Colonsay most people will first think of Kiloran Bay and the Strand. But there’s more on Colonsay: in the far north-east of the island we find Balnahard beach (or to give it its Gaelic name, Tràigh Bàn). A very remote and secluded beach with great views over to the mainland and to the Isle of Jura.

  1. Following on from the view north and the view south of Balnahard beach in the north of Islay’s neighbour Colonsay I thought I’ll put the two together in a panoramic picture of the whole beach. Here’s a view from the top of the dunes behind the beach. The Isle of Mull in the distance on the left, the mainland and Jura towards the centre and right.
