Barnhill from the water, Isle of Jura

Probably the most famous house on Jura, Barnhill, where George Orwell wrote his famous book 1984. Here seen from the water during a boat trip to the Corryvreckan (where Orwell and his son got into serious trouble once).

  1. Well, the inside is basic (for modern standards) as far as I know. I think it’s a gas powered fridge and oil lamps or something along those lines.

  2. I can’t remember how long it took to get there when we passed it while on our way to the Corryvreckan with WalkIslay a few years ago, but I’d say easily an hour or even more. Seeing it again from the boat was much faster and easier 😉
