The wreck in the middle of Kilchoman beach, below the high water line, is believed to be the Patti, an early steamship with a square boiler wrecked in the 1840s. The remains of the Mary Ann are at the very top of the beach in the north.

  1. Thank you for this. I have been taking photos of this wreck for a few years now under the impression that it was the Mary Ann. Many thanks for the clarification. Can you tell me if there is anything left visible of the wreck of the Mary Ann, and if so, whereabouts is it? I’m assuming below the high water line and only visible at low tide.

    • Hi Fiona,

haven’t got any pictures of it, but the Mary Ann is at the top of the beach. I’ve seen some bits I think are from it, but don’t have any pictures to hand. The description I’ve seen of it reads as follows:
“The timbers of the ‘Mary Ann’ are at the very top of the beach well to the right of the burn”

      • Thanks. Too wet to go and explore today, so I will head up another day. It’s on the beach though, rather that among the rocks?
