Picture of a view over a bay with a sandy beach A view over Machir Bay from the old radar station on a bright but bitterly cold April day on Islay with a fierce northerly wind.

  1. My father was commanding officer of this radar station on Islay . I often wished I had asked him more about his time there . I have never visited Islay , but I hope to soon . Peter Bartlett . Sevenoaks Kent .

      • Yes probably next year . I do know they were lucky enough to be the guests of the Schroeders who lived on the Island on several occasions. Peter .

        • While I’ve heard of the Schroeders (and have met one of the family many years ago during a walking week) I’m not sure about the family tree. I’d guess the ones they were guests of must have been the parents of the current Schroeders who still own Dunlossit.
