Red phone box in Port Ellen, Isle of Islay

Picture of a red phone box next to the Macaulay and Torrie storeThe remaining red phone box in Port Ellen, outside Torries at the junction of Frederick Crescent and Lennox Street. I believe there used to be another one at the other end of the village, near the junction to the road past the malting and out to the Oa, outside Tighcargaman, but that’s long gone.

  1. And I hope it stays. I’ve heard rumours that BT is planning to take them away or selling them off now that almost everyone has a mobile phone and hardly anyone uses them any more.

  2. I’m not sure Armin. It was one of those things that we didn’t notice at the time. Even had an argument that it was still there but checked and found that it was long gone. Funny how we get so familiar with things.
