One of my favourite beaches on Islay and the most northerly beach on the island, Bàgh an Dà Dhoruis near Rhuvaal lighthouse. The raised beaches along the north coast of Islay are towering over it while Mull and Jura are visible in the distance.

One of my favourite walks, the walk around the northern tip of Islay, especially if it includes a visit to Bàgh an Dà Dhoruis. In June 2013 I visited it together with my sister Imke, who took this picture of me for me. Mala Bholsa also visible in the distance behind the raised beaches..

Panoramic picture of a remote beach under a cloudy skyA panoramic view of the beach at Bàgh an Dà Dhoruis in the far north of Islay. Even on a cloudy and grey day this beach has a fascinating beauty I think. And as it requires a several hours walk to get there (unless you have access to a boat or helicopter) it’s almost always deserted.
