Some time ago I posted the view north at Balnahard beach on Islay’s neighbour Colonsay. Here’s the counterpart looking south. Jura visible in the distance under the clouds.

A fascinating art work on Islay’s neighbour Colonsay, created by artist Julian Meredith and continuously being improved by visitors. Visitors are encouraged to add stones from surrounding raised beaches (e.g. Balnahard) to the outline created by Julian. While you can see from ground level the best views are from nearby hills, here from Carnan Eoin.
When thinking of beaches on Islay’s neighbour Colonsay most people will first think of Kiloran Bay and the Strand. But there’s more on Colonsay: in the far north-east of the island we find Balnahard beach (or to give it its Gaelic name, Tràigh Bàn). A very remote and secluded beach with great views over to the mainland and to the Isle of Jura.
