A view from a ferry in the Sound of Islay having departed Port Askaig for a crossing to the mainland. The famous Paps of Jura in some mild November afternoon light on the right, below them Feolin with the Islay-Jura ferry slip on the left.

An interesting view of the Jura ferry from the Islay ferry. While the Islay ferry is being prepared to depart from Port Askaig the Eilean Dhiura made a run to Feolin across the heavy current in the Sound of Islay. The tide was running from north to south (left to right), so the ferry initially travelled “sideways” towards the north, against the current (you can see the wash from right to left). At the last minute is turned right (or better, to starboard) to land at the ferry slip. Some great skill by the captain.
