Yes, I know that slate doesn’t burn. That’s why I wrote ‘fire’. Yet someone had piled these up in a way which made them look to me like a fire ready to be lit. This was at the old slate mine (short lived to my knowledge, as the quality wasn’t good) near Kilchiaran.
A view from a coastal walk on the south west coast of Islay, between Lossit Bay and Kilchiaran Bay. We are looking north, Kilchiaran Bay is hidden behind the high tops on the right. The northern end of Machir Bay is just visible in the distance, Coull Point to the left of it.
I must admit I can’t remember where and when I took this picture (sifting through several ten thousand pictures would take a while…), although I’ve got a suspicion it was near Kilchiaran. Some impressive Highland Cattle in one field, lots of sheep in the neighbouring field.
