Having walked out on Kilchoman beach after passing through the dunes I could see the bright band all along the horizon in the west. Still, at this point my expectations what I would see 30-45 minutes later were still quite low.

After an overcast November day on Islay I went out for a beach walk on Kilchoman beach late in the afternoon. While there was some brightness on the horizon little did I know what I was going to see about 30-45 minutes later…
