Admittedly not as big as some of the other famous surfing locations in Scotland, but Machir Bay on the west coast of Islay has a fairly frequent supply of waves. Here’s a young man surfing one in April 2014.

A view over Machir Bay from the Bealach na Caillich, the southern end of the Kilchoman Crags on the right. If you look carefully you can see Granny’s Rock, the silhouette of a face, at the very top.

A sunny view over Machir Bay on the west coast of Islay. I took this picture from the Kilchoman Crags, steep hills and cliffs towering over the bay. Dunes with some machair in the foreground, lots of colourful flowers grow here in the summer.
