Picture of the summit cairn of a hillA visit to the highest point on Islay, the summit of Beinn Bheigier (491m). Unfortunately it was a fairly hazy, but you can still make out the Paps of Jura in the distance towards the right.

Paps of Jura behind Cloud Inversion from Foreland, Isle of Islay

Image

Picture of some round hills behind a cloud inversionAn interesting view on Islay from near Foreland. There are very low clouds over the Sound of Islay (sound not visible from here), but above them it’s clear. The Paps of Jura are sticking out from the clouds, bathed in the evening sunshine.

Walking Across Loch Indaal, Isle of Islay

Image

Picture of walkers crossing the top of a sea loch at low tideThe title might be slight exaggeration, but at low tide you can indeed walk across at least a part of Loch Indaal. This is from an Islay walking week a few years ago. We started at the Gaelic College just outside of Bowmore and walked across to where the River Sorn runs into the loch at Bridgend. Also note the (hazy) Paps of Jura on the right.
