Walkers below the Paps of Jura

Image

Picture of a group of walkers on a low hill, two high hills behind themA picture from an Islay walking week excursion to the Isle of Jura. This is near Cnocbreac, two of the Paps of Jura in the haze in the background. Beinn a’Chaolais (733m) on the right, Beinn an Oir (785m, the highest of the Paps) on the left. A tiny glimpse of Beinn Shiantaidh (757m) between them if you look closely.

The Paps of Jura from Keills, Isle of Islay

Image

Picture of a view down a road through a village, beautiful mountains in the distanceA view along the A846 through the village of Keills, it looks like it leads straight to the Paps of Jura. Of course there’s the minor obstacle of the Sound of Islay in the way (Port Askaig is just behind the trees in the distance), but I still like the thought.

Barnacle Geese and the Paps of Jura from Loch Indaal, Isle of Islay

Image

Picture of a view of Barnacle Geese both in flight and on the ground with the background of a coastal landscape with high mountains in the distanceA picture taken while standing out on the mudflats at the top of Loch Indaal at low tide. Barnacle Geese are resting along the shoreline, some on the mudflat, some on the grass along the shore. Others have taken flight, having been spooked elsewhere. The Paps of Jura towering over the scene in the background, also the John Francis Campbell Monument on the right.
