A picture from July 2004, during what I believe was probably Islay’s largest building project ever. A huge hole was blasted into the hillside at Port Askaig to accommodate a new parking area, waiting area and the reshaped road.
A slightly older picture from a brilliant summer day on Islay. The MV Isle of Arran, then regular ferry, now relief boat, is waiting at the linkspan in Port Askaig. The Paps of Jura on the right.
A view from the ferry travelling up the Sound of Islay approaching Port Askaig. On the left the small lighthouse at Carraig Mhòr. Behind it Dunlossit House and on the right the MV Isle of Arran berthed in Port Askaig.
