A view back to Port Askaig from the shelter of the lounge of the departing Islay ferry. Leaving Islay is never easy, but on a day where it’s pouring it down it’s a tiny fraction easier than on a sunny day.
A view from the ferry travelling up the Sound of Islay from Port Askaig to Colonsay. Thick fog reduced visibility quite a lot, you could only just make out the houses on the shore.
A picture from July 2004, during what I believe was probably Islay’s largest building project ever. A huge hole was blasted into the hillside at Port Askaig to accommodate a new parking area, waiting area and the reshaped road.
