Port Askaig changed dramatically in the last decade with a new road, waiting area and car park blasted into the rocks behind the ferry terminal. This picture was taken from the Islay ferry while the work was under way in 2004 to carve the space into the rocks.
In a way the right weather to leave Islay, if it’s pouring with rain I think it makes it slightly easier to go. This is from a departure a few years ago, waiting in the car to board the ferry in Port Askaig in pouring rain.
