Port Ellen pier and marina, Isle of Islay

Picture of a small harbour with a ferry pier and a yacht marinaA slightly older picture of Port Ellen, the pier has since been rebuilt and upgraded, also the MV Isle of Arran is not a regular on the Islay route any more. Also the Islay Hotel has been completed since (if you look closely you can see a building under construction without a roof still, between the masts of the sailing yachts). The Port Ellen Maltings and distillery warehouses in the distance just left of centre.

A view of the Port Ellen Maltings from the ferry arriving on Islay. Two visiting sailing yachts are moored in the bay. Also visible the old warehouses and remaining buildings of the long closed Port Ellen distillery. This is an older picture, the low chimneys have since been replaced by a much higher one to reduce the smoke going into the surrounding houses.

I’m not entirely sure, but I believe this is the Majestic III Clam Muncher coming into Port Ellen on a hazy but bright day.
