After first spotting her from Claggain Bay I saw the new ferry MV Isle of Islay again the next day. While on the MV Finlaggan waiting to depart to Kennacraig I got this great view of her in the Sound of Islay with the coastline of Jura in the background.

A crossing to Islay on the MV Finlaggan in April 2026. Jura on the right, Islay ahead in the bright low evening sun. The ferry powering through the waves, sending spray up into the air.

My first sighting of the MV Isle of Islay

My first sighting of the MV Isle of Islay

For an Islay visit in April 2026 I had hoped for a crossing with the brand new MV Isle of Islay, but it wasn’t meant to be. However, I was lucky enough to have two sightings of her. The first one (this one) was from Claggain Bay in the south east of Islay. I was out on the pebble beach in some beautiful late afternoon sunshine, taking pictures and filming video when I suddenly spotted the ferry on the horizon on its way from Port Askaig to Kennacraig. Quickly took a few pictures before she was gone.
