This view looks rather different now (the picture is from April 2016), as the Machrie Hotel has been completely remodelled over the last few years. The Barnacle Geese are possibly still coming to the same field (if I remember correctly they often return to the same field for many years or even their whole life).

This picture is a different take on a cropped picture I posted a while ago: Barnacle Geese and the Machrie Hotel, Isle of Islay. Which version do you prefer, the cropped view or the wider view with more sky and field?

While there are a good number of birds in this picture they still only represent a tiny fraction of the winter visitors to Islay. Barnacle Geese taking off at Gruinart after being spooked by something.
