The north of the Sound of Islay

Image

Picture of a view over a sound between two islands, two lighthouses and two ships in viewA view across the northern end of the Sound of Islay from the Isle of Jura. Jura in the foreground, I’m not sure if the small light has a name. On the other side of the sound is the northern tip of Islay with Rhuvaal lighthouse. In the distance Colonsay can be seen. Two ships in the sound, a coaster going north, a fishing boat travelling south.

Rock formations near Mala Bholsa, Isle of Islay

Image

Picture of rock formations including a natural arch at a shorelineThe coast around Mala Bholsa in the north of Islay has some amazing landscapes with all kinds of rock formations. This is one of the many natural arches in the area, behind it some interesting rocks rising out of the sea. In the background Colonsay and Mull with Ben More can be seen in the distance.

At Loch Tarbert, Isle of Jura

Image

Picture of a view over a sea loch, a burn running into itA view from a great walk on Islay’s neighbour Jura which took us to the shore of Loch Tarbert. This pebbled beach is just to the east of Glen Batrick. I’m not entirely sure what the name of the burn below is as there are two in the area and I’m not sure which one this is. It might be Abhainn Luindale.

On the horizon you can see Oronsay (left) and parts of Colonsay (right).
