Dubh Artach lighthouse and Kilchiaran radar station, Isle of Islay

A view west from Beinn Tart a’Mhill, the highest hill on the Rhinns of Islay. In front of us the old radar station at Kilchiaran, in the distance on the horizon (towards the left) is Dubh Artach lighthouse.

Starry November night (with Milky Way) over Saligo Bay, Isle of Islay

Image

Picture of a night sky with thousands of stars over a coastline with beach, dunes and cliffsA beautiful clear November night in Saligo Bay on the west coast of Islay. Thousands of stars in the sky with the Milky Way just left of centre. Not entirely sure what the bright light left on the horizon is, I think it’s either a ship or Dubh Artach lighthouse. Also possibly a hint of northern light (the green hue) just above the horizon?

Saligo Bay from Turnaichaidh, Isle of Islay

Image

Picture of a coastal landscape seen from a hillA slightly different view of Saligo Bay from one of the higher points on the Rhinns of Islay, Turnaichaidh (170m) just behind the Kilchoman Crags. Saligo Bay with Saligo cottage towards the left, the remains of the old radar installations in the centre, the track out to Smaull stretching out into the distance on the right. In the foreground you can see the Kilchoman road passing through, bordering the fields of Rockside Farm as well as Loch Clach a’ Bhuaile. And if you look very closely you can just about make out Dubh Artach lighthouse on the horizon.
