July Sunset at Loch Gorm, Isle of Islay

Image

Picture of a dramatic sunset behind cloudsA guest picture courtesy of Keith Wood, who visited Islay in July 2014. Keith writes about this sunset from the 9th of July:

After a beautifully sunny day a few clouds gathered from the west to make this sunset quite spectacular. We aimed towards Machir Bay but upon reaching a high point overlooking Loch Gorm we decided to go no further and settled down for almost an hour of Nature’s artistry.

Thank you Keith!

Walking near Smaull, Isle of Islay

Image

Panoramic view over a coastal landscape from a hill, a walker coming up the hillWalking on the west coast of Islay a decade ago. The view is south from just north of Smaull (buildings just right of centre). Saligo Bay on the right. Loch Gorm just visible in the distance, to the right of An Carnan on the left. In the far distance Sunderland Hill and the Kilchoman Crags.

Coming up the hill is my late mother on the first of her three Islay visits.

Beautiful clear June night sky, Isle of Islay

Image

Picture of a bright night sky in JuneOn a clear June night on Islay while no midnight sun it doesn’t really get dark, especially when the picture is taken with a long exposure looking north. This is a view from near Kilchoman Church, looking towards Saligo and Loch Gorm. Low mist was forming over Loch Gorm. Only a few stars can be seen in the sky as it was still too light even well past midnight.
