Between the rocks at southern Machir Bay, Isle of Islay

Picture of a view between some steep rocks at the end of a beachA scene at the southern end of Kilchoman beach in Machir Bay on the west coast of Islay. An area I never get tired to explore at low tide. I wonder what kind of noise the big rock in the centre made when it broke off and fell down? Was it a big long tumble or just one low thump?

Rocks at the southern end of Machir Bay, Isle of Islay

Panoramic picture of rocks at the end of a sandy beachSomething I still haven’t tired of after almost 20 years of visiting Islay and in particular Kilchoman beach: Exploring the gullis, cracks, gaps and more at the southern end of Machir Bay, only accessible at low tide. With the shifting sands there’s always something new to discover, it looks different almost every time.

Seal on Kilchoman beach, Machir Bay, Isle of Islay

Image

Picture of a seal on a beachIt was first spotted at the foot of the Kilchoman dunes by some people walking their dog (luckily their dog was on a leash). Having been disturbed this seal then slowly made its way across the beach back to the safety of the water. Seals aren’t the fastest on land, so it took it quite some time.
