One of my favourite views after arriving on Islay with the evening ferry, a view from the High Road over to the Paps of Jura. I’ve taken another picture of this view but at that time showing a cloud inversion at the Paps of Jura.
A very early morning (I think around 3:30) on Islay in June, the day before the summer solstice. The first light comes up in the sky, creating a beautiful tranquil view from Port Charlotte pier looking towards the Loch Indaal lighthouse and the Paps of Jura.
I should think it’s well over a 100 years since this cannon was pointed at a ship in anger (if it ever was), now this very old cannon is standing outside the old RNLI station at Port Askaig at the Sound of Islay. The still quite new departing MV Finlaggan below the Paps of Jura in the distance.
