Snails (?) in the water at Saligo Bay, Isle of Islay

I’m not entirely sure if these are snails or something else (if they are please let me know in the comments), either way I spotted them in some shallow water (you can just spot some sun reflections in the clear water) at Saligo Bay.

Spotted at Kilchoman a number of years ago, a good number of snails on a fence post. I don’t know why they all congregated on the post.
