While the regular Jura ferry was away for repairs/ maintenance in April 2023 the MV James took over to ferry vehicles and passengers across the Sound of Islay. Here she is at the pier in Port Askaig.

A beautiful view from Bunnahabhain pier in the north of Islay on a sunny April afternoon, looking across the Sound of Islay to Jura with the amazing Paps of Jura. I quite like the bright red painted mooring bollards, a nice touch of colour.

A panoramic view of the summer solstice sunset 2023 as seen from next to the Bodach and Cailleach standing stones on the Isle of Gigha. On the horizon Islay (left) and Jura with the distinctive Paps of Jura (right). The sun is setting somewhere around the Sound of Islay area. On the right one of the several excellent linked footpaths on Gigha. Just left of centre is the small island of Craro with the Bull of Craro (although it’s too far away to make it out in this panorama). To the right of it Cuddyport. Not in the picture, but the Gigha community windfarm is just to the left.
