Black Rocks buoy in the Sound of Islay

Image

Picture of a buoy labelled Black Rocks in a fast flowing soundAt the southern end of the Sound of Islay on the Jura side the ferry to Port Askaig passes a buoy with the label Black Rocks. The ‘wash’ behind it also nicely show the strong tidal flows in the sound, one of the reasons it was chosen as a site for a tidal power generation installation. Also note the Jura ferry on her way to Port Askaig in the distance.

Walkers crossing a burn near the Sound of Islay

Image

Picture of a group of walkers crossing a burnA picture from an Islay walking week some years ago. This is somewhere along the Sound of Islay between Dunlossit and An Cladach, it could be Abhainn Gleann Logan, but possibly also further north. A plank was used as an improvised bridge to help the walkers cross the burn running down from the hills.
