Lapwings breed on Islay early in the year. This one I watched together with several other ones in a field near Ballinaby. Their parents were excitedly flying around in the area, seemingly trying to distract potential predators.
Quite likely they were just leaving Islay, as this picture was taken in mid April, the time the Barnacle Geese return to Greenland. This flock passed Lossit Bay in the south west of Islay, flying north.
Seen from one of the older Islay ferries this is the new Calmac ferry MV Finlaggan on a crossing from Port Askaig to Kennacraig. The south east of Islay in the background.
