View from upper deck of Islay ferry MV Finlaggan

Picture of a view from the upper deck of a modern ferry cruising on a cloudy dayA view from the upper deck of the new Islay ferry MV Finlaggan, taken on a cloudy crossing during her first year of service. Unfortunately the Finlaggan has one “problem” for me, which is very limited space outside. There is a small walk (without benches) below the bridge and the main outdoor areas are two small seating areas at the stern of the ship (one of which is taken up by the smokers). Apart from that you can walk a tiny bit on the starboard side (from where this picture was taken) and that’s it. Not a lot if you like to be outside if the weather permits it in any way.

McArthur’s Head lighthouse and Sound of Islay panorama

Panoramic picture of a view over a sound between two islands from the grounds of a small lighthouseWhen McArthur’s Head lighthouse was still manned the lighthouse keepers certainly had some stunning views on a clear day. Towards the left the Sound of Islay stretches into the distance, Sgarbh Breac (364m) to the left of the lighthouse. Across the sound the south coast of the Isle of Jura with the Paps of Jura towards the centre of the picture.
