After a visit to Oronsay Priory during the Islay walking week the walkers are on their way back to Colonsay across the Strand. This walk can only be completed when the tide is right and needs to be planned carefully.

Approaching the north coast of Islay from the hills
Image
After climbing the top of Sgarbh Breac on a walk in the north of Islay I made my way to the north coast, approaching it from the hills. Admittedly it being a panorama exaggerates the effect, but I quite like how the hills on the left and right frame the picture here. In the distance on the left is Mala Bholsa (127m), below us just right of centre is the beach outside Bholsa caves. On the horizon on the right you can just make out Oronsay and Colonsay.

A panoramic view from the Lord Colonsay monument above Scalasaig on Colonsay. Scalasaig with the pier on the left, you can spot the cruise ship Hebridean Princess at the pier. The north coast of Islay on the horizon on the right. Jura stretching through most of the view with the Paps of Jura towards the right, low clouds covering their summits.
