Always a fascinating sight, a Hen Harrier on Islay. This one I watched at Gruinart on the hunt. It tried to get to some pheasant chicks, but their mother wasn’t having any of it and fought off the Hen Harrier (unfortunately I didn’t get any pictures of that brief fight).
Unfortunately I didn’t have my big telephoto lens to hand when we spotted this male Hen Harrier hunting on the Oa in the south east of Islay. Still, we got some great views of it and even at this distance it was a beautiful sight.
