Image

Rhinns of Islay lighthouse from Beinn Tart a'MhillIt almost looks like an aerial picture, but this view is actually from Beinn Tart a’Mhill, at 232m the highest hill on the Rhinns of Islay. In front of the lighthouse are Port Wemyss on the left and Portnahaven on the right. Looking across the North Channel you can also make out the coast of Ireland in the distance.

Picture of a tall ship passing some offshore rocksSpotted from the cliffs on the west coast of Islay, the Dutch tall ship Flying Dutchman passing the dangerous Frenchman’s Rocks on her way to Bruichladdich. Ireland just visible in the distance on the left.

West coast evening sun, Isle of Islay

Image

Picture of a coastal landscape in the low evening sunA view south west from the cliffs between Sanaigmore and Saligo on the west coast of Islay, the low evening Sun providing some beautiful light. The view is quite far ranging: On the left the Kilchoman Crags and the crags above Machir Bay with the old radar station. Then the southern end of the Rhinns stretching out behind them. Across the sea in the far distance you can make out various parts of Ireland’s coast. Closer to us the ‘Opera House Rocks’ just right of centre.
