Image

Picture of an old cannon pointing at a modern ferryI should think it’s well over a 100 years since this cannon was pointed at a ship in anger (if it ever was), now this very old cannon is standing outside the old RNLI station at Port Askaig at the Sound of Islay. The still quite new departing MV Finlaggan below the Paps of Jura in the distance.

Ferry approaching the Oa under a crescent Moon, Isle of Islay

Image

Picture of the bow of a ferry under the last evening light, a crescent Moon in the skyEvening ferry crossings to Islay I think often provide the best views, like this one from a crossing in April 2016. On the way to Port Ellen the MV Finlaggan is approaching the Oa, a crescent Moon low in the evening sky not long after sunset.
