Rest and be Thankful in April panorama (Journey to Islay)

Image

Panoramic picture of a valley with roads snaking up on the sideA popular stop on the journey to Islay is the Rest and be Thankful at the top of the mountain pass between Loch Lomond and Loch Long. This is the view into Glen Croe on the Loch Lomond side of the area. You can make out the A83 coming up on the left. Below the old drovers road, which is now used as an alternative route when a landslide has closed the A83. Taken on a journey to Islay in April, still some snow on the top of the hills.

A83 through Glen Croe and Glen Kinglas, journey to Islay

Panoramic picture of a road through two glens (valleys) over a mountain passAdmittedly not a view you get from the road, I took this panorama during a walk up Beinn an Lochain on a chilly December day. But the road you can spot will be familiar to many Islay travellers, it’s the A83 climbing up Glen Croe on the right, passing Rest and Be Thankful in the centre before descending into Glen Kinglas on the left, driving past Loch Restil. Beinn Luibhean (857m) in front of us, to the right is The Cobbler (Ben Arthur, 884m). Just peaking over the ridge between them I believe is Beinn Narnain (926m).
