Waves and smooth rocks in Saligo Bay, Isle of Islay

Image

Picture of a beach with rocks smoothed by millions of yearsA view of Saligo Bay in April 2015, waves rolling in on a sunny afternoon on Islay. With a lot of sand washed away during the winter storm the smooth rocks are exposed more than usual, showing the effect of millions of years of sand and water.

Saligo Bay panorama after the winter storms, Isle of Islay

Image

Panoramic picture of a bay with a rocky beachA panoramic view of Saligo Bay in April 2015, looking quite different after the winter storms which hit Islay’s west coast in 2014/2015. A lot of sand had been washed away, exposing a lot more rocks than usual. Also a sandbank visible at low tide formed off the beach. An old sea mine moved position and was now lodged between the rocks below the dunes on the right.
