Approaching McArthur’s Head Lighthouse, Isle of Islay

Picture of a group of walkers approaching a lighthouse, descending a hillVisiting McArthur’s Head lighthouse on the entrance to the Sound of Islay is one of the highlights during the Islay walking week. It can only be reached by boat or on foot, so not many people have visited it. The approach is usually descending from the hills above, a quite interesting experience when so far you’ve only ever seen it from below, from the ferry.

Sailing Yacht near Dunlossit House, Isle of Islay

Image

Picture of a sailing yacht passing a large country house high above a soundI think I took this picture from the ferry over to Jura, looking back to Islay. The sailing yacht was tacking down the Sound of Islay, not sure if it had at least the tide pushing it. In the background is Dunlossit House high above the sound.
