A memory from my late mother’s first visit to Islay bck in 2003. One of the many places I took her to were the Singing Sands near Port Ellen. Unfortunately it was a rather cloudy and later rainy day, I remember we only just made it back to the car before the heavens opened for deluge of rain.

Picture of course taken by my mother.

A slightly wider view of the road to the American Monument on the Oa. The old red phone box at Risabus on the left, now the smallest shop on Islay. The American Monument on the Mull of Oa in the distance towards the right.

A view on the Rhinns of Islay just south of Bruichladdich on a July morning. Some of the small beaches at Port Ban in the foreground, Laggan Point on the left and the Oa with the Mull of Oa in the centre on the other side of Loch Indaal. Lochindaal lighthouse just visible in the distance on the right.
PS: The OS map shows this area as Port Flora, but to my knowledge it’s better known as Port Ban.
