The wreck on Kilchoman beach, Machir Bay and Ireland in the Gloaming, Isle of Islay

A November late afternoon on the west coast of Islay, just after sunset. The last light of the Gloaming illuminates the view from the low dunes on the northern end of Kilchoman beach. The wreck of the Patti below us, a fairly calm Machir Bay behind. In the distance a glimpse of Ireland appears out of the mist and clouds.

Rain shower over the North Channel seen from the Oa, Isle of Islay

Image

Picture of a rain shower over a channel between two islandsIt was still nice and sunny on Islay when I took this picture, although if memory serves me right the shower here still seen over the North Channel caught up with us later. The view is from the Oa, somewhere between Port an Eas and Inveraval. In the distance on the left you can just make out Ireland.

Rhinns of Islay lighthouse from Beinn Tart a'MhillIt almost looks like an aerial picture, but this view is actually from Beinn Tart a’Mhill, at 232m the highest hill on the Rhinns of Islay. In front of the lighthouse are Port Wemyss on the left and Portnahaven on the right. Looking across the North Channel you can also make out the coast of Ireland in the distance.
