A view south down the Sound of Islay from Rubha a’ Mhill near Bunnahabhain on an overcast April day. McArthur’s Head just visible in the haze in the far distance.
I should think it’s well over a 100 years since this cannon was pointed at a ship in anger (if it ever was), now this very old cannon is standing outside the old RNLI station at Port Askaig at the Sound of Islay. The still quite new departing MV Finlaggan below the Paps of Jura in the distance.
The Islay lifeboat, the Helmut Schroder of Dunlossit II, at its moorings on a calm April afternoon in 2017. The Sound of Islay with Jura on the other side in the background.
