Kilchoman church tower peeking over the hill, Isle of Islay

Image

Picture of a square church tower peeking over the brow of a hillA different view of Kilchoman church, just the top of the tower and a bit of the gable at the other end peeking over the brow of the hill. I’m not sure from where I’ve taken this picture, it might have been with a long lens somewhere from the eastern side of Loch Gorm.

Picture of an old military cemetery/memorial in a field on a rainy dayThe Kilchoman military cemetery where some of the dead from the sinking of the Otranto in October 1918 are buried. The road to Kilchoman, Isle of Islay

Image

Picture of a single track road winding through a rugged landscape with some dunesUsually the final stretch of the drive for my Islay visits, the winding single track road to Kilchoman to arrive at Kilchoman House Cottages. I love how the road swings up the hill and past the dunes, often there’s a big bull in the field on the right, just below the sand dune. The ruin of Kilchoman Church at the end of the road.
