A view across the water to the remaining buildings of the now long closed Port Ellen distillery, mostly the warehouses. Next to it the modern maltings, which supply most of the distilleries on Islay.
A view over Kilnaughton Bay and Port Ellen on the other side of the bay from the dunes behind the beach. Kilnaughton beach just below, partially hidden by the dunes. The pier with one of the Calmac ferries serving Islay on the right. Port Ellen Maltings and the distillery warehouses on the left. In the background in the far distance the hills of the mainland.
A slightly older picture of Port Ellen, the pier has since been rebuilt and upgraded, also the MV Isle of Arran is not a regular on the Islay route any more. Also the Islay Hotel has been completed since (if you look closely you can see a building under construction without a roof still, between the masts of the sailing yachts). The Port Ellen Maltings and distillery warehouses in the distance just left of centre.
