A moody November morning at the Sound of Islay, waiting on the ferry to depart for a day out in Jura. The Islay lifeboat (in the shade on the right) ready for its next callout.

At the Jura road endThis is as far as you can drive from the crossing over the Sound of Islay, the end of the public road on Jura (I reversed my car from the car park, from where I took this picture, to get it next to the sign). It’s also the starting point for the long walk to the Corryvreckan whirlpool, well behind the hills in the distance. On the way you’ll also pass Barnhill, where Orwell wrote 1984.
