An April morning on the west coast of Islay, the dunes are still keeping Kilchoman beach in the shade while the sun rises and lights up the waves in Machir Bay. A small edge had built up in the sand during high tide, now crumbling away as the water recedes.

Seen from the slopes of Beinn Dubh, a sailing yacht making her way north in the Sound of Islay under a red spinnaker (which the crew had hoisted only minutes before I took this picture, good timing by them!). The Paps of Jura tower over the scene, dwarfing the yacht.
